i have happily lost all faith in SID’s and media jackasses in this country as of today. why, you ask? because the #1 georgia bulldogs have dropped to #2. how could this be? last i checked, the dawgs could have pretty much named their score against georgia southern. i guess georgia must really suck. that must be the answer. no great team would choose to not run the score up on a very overwhelmed opponent.
same goes for ohio state. they only put up a 43 point shutout on their victim. so who was the beneficiary of these horrid performances? USC. they hang over 50 points on a less-than mediocre virginia squad and, now they have proven beyond all doubt that trojans reign supreme.
every year i get so excited about the start of college football season. every year my stomach turns after the first week(polls). i guess there really is incentive on annihilating one’s opponent. look, i think usc is a great team and will punish the buckeyes when they visit los angeles in a couple of weeks. but don’t penalize georgia for having a little class. oh. i forget. the media and coaches(SID’s) don’t see it that way. the bulldogs really needed to score about 60 so they could stay the darlings of the college football world. screw it. i gotta admit i’m sort-of happy about this. maybe the dawgs will fly under the rader a bit now.

Let’s see, the Tampa Bay Rays have two starters on the DL, Evan Longoria and Carl Crawford. I’m really interested to see if they can withstand this. Both the Yankees and Red Sox have had key starters spend extended time away due to injuries. The Rays have been pretty lucky up until now. Only Percival has missed any time that mattered. The Yankees injury woes are well documented, Joba, Jorge, Matsui, Hughes, A-Rod, Kennedy, Bruny, Damon and most important…Wang. I almost put Pavano on the list but come on. He hasn’t been a factor for them in about 4 years. Anyway, the Rays have shown no signs of stopping the run their on. They just keep winning. Now, lets see if they can keep it going.
In college football, USC’s Mark Sanchez dislocated his kneecap. I can’t even begin to tell how queasy that makes me. He will be out for 1 to 4 weeks. Florida’s Percy Harvin has evidently taken a step back in his recovery from heel surgery. Georgia’s Trinton Sturdivant hurt his knee in the first fall scrimmage. The extent isn’t known, but he may be lost for the year. UCLA’s Ben Olson and Clemson’s Reshaad Jackson are out for at least 8 weeks.
The NFL has been relatively unhurt with the exception of Peyton Manning and now Seattle’s Bobby Engram.

According to the Yes Network, Joba Chamberlain has been diagnosed with rotator cuff tendinitis. Maybe not as bad as it could be.

The more and more we wait for the ‘devil’rays to fall, the more and more they pull ahead. I’m not quite sure how this has happened. Last year they were something like fifteen to twenty games under .500. Now they have one of the best records in baseball. I figured their talent would finally come together, but jeez! I think the Yankees blew their wad just after the all-star break. I don’t think they’ve got enough horses in the stable, especially if Joba Chamberlain goes on the DL. Oh well, wait till next year. Wow! I haven’t said that in thirteen seasons.
Mark Richt has got a problem down in Athens. He’s known universally as a good guy. What the hell’s the problem. I don’t think he’s recruiting thugs. I KNOW he’s not. I think his kids are taking advantage of him. Shame on them. I love my Bulldogs and will always root for them, but he needs to bitch slap the collective team. ENOUGH!! On a lighter note: AJ Green is the real deal everyone thought he was gonna be. The players are raving about this kid after just a short time of workouts. He’s gonna be fun to watch. Echoing Josh, here’s hoping no more Georgia players get arrested for a while!

I keep getting behind, losing track of time and sports wait for no one. Fall camps, both college and pro, have now started. Its hard to keep up when you work 3rd shift. I have to budget more time. I’ll get some sleep and put everything in order. Hopefully, no more of my Dawgs will get arrested between now and 5:00 pm.

Them being the Red Sox. Yes, they got rid of the cancer named Manny. But for a huge price. $7 million and two prospects while only receiving Jason Bay. Yeah, Bay’s good, but he’s not Manny. So, really, I feel ecstatic! I’d be even happier if my Yankees weren’t getting their collective asses kicked by the Angels right now. I guess you can’t have it all.

…and only two readers. Well, you gotta start small. First things first: the New York Yankees are the greatest sports team of all time. There is no arguing with me on this matter. I won’t even bring statistics into it. I know that people from outside the U.S. think Americans are too fixated on stats, so let’s just talk about visibility. Many americans have heard of Manchester United and Real Madrid. Well, there isn’t a person in the western world who doesn’t know who the Yankees are. That is proof enough.
Next: The Red Sox originated from the armpit of Hell. Then they moved to Boston. I cannot begin to tell you how much i loathe the ’sawx’. If alien invaders came to earth and informed us that the only means of human survival was a red sox victory, then I guess I’ll see you in another lifetime.
Since it’s baseball season, my focus is primarily on the pennant races in both leagues. Pretty soon however, I’ll shift over to college football in all its glory and majesty. I’ve got my annuals ready and the good web sites favorited. I’ve got my Georgia hat ready to be donned, saturdays dedicated, and my last twelve personal hours from work ready for use. But, it’s still a month away. So I’m stickin’ with the hardball for now. Actually that’s not true. I won’t be able to stop talking about the college game. It’s in the blood.
Who knows? Maybe next time I’ll talk about mediocre football(Big 10), focusing specifically on Wisconsin.

Bob Griese said on College Football Live that Alabama was his sleeper team in the SEC because of John Parker Wilson. He says the JPW is one of the best QB’s in the nation. Riiight. I think Bob needs to take his meds.

So the Angels get Big Tex and the Yankees get Nady, Marte AND Pudge. What did the Red Sox do? Nothing!!!! Well, they are talking to the Marlins about a deal for Manny, but does anyone believe this is gonna happen? I’d be shocked if it did.
College football fall camps are starting up. Yay!! I’ve been dying for football. I’m also interested in USA Basketball this Olympics. I hope they take a cue from our gold medal winning women’s softball team and kick the crap out of everyone. They were the best and they showed it in every game. There was no doubt. Well, this group of basketball players is far superior to any squad they”ll face and they need to show it. I’ll be terribly disappointed if there are any close games. We’ll see. More later after I’ve woken up.
